Best of: Cow on Ice

Maria Sharapova couldn’t believe it herself. It was the first time she plummeted on the dirt in this clay season. Well done, Maria.

Honestly, I think this one looked almost choreographed. She won the point against Zakapalova, who was not amused.

Here are the classic stumbles. The face-down in Rome 2011 is my all-time favourite. Sorry, RG 2012, but you cannot keep up with the fall in Rome.

Once upon a time in Hong Kong…

While roaming YouTube I found a little tennis gem.

In January 1999 two generations of tennis awesomeness clashed in Hong Kong’s Super-Power Challenge Cup (hilarious name for an exhibition but fitting, I think). Watch 17-year old Serena Williams taking on 29-year old Steffi Graf in the semifinal.

Steffi would go on to play sister Venus Williams in the final of this exhibition tournament but had to retire with a stomach flu.
Fun fact: Adidas seemed to have not changed their clothing boredom policy since the 90s. Steffi would wear this exact same dress at the French Open six months later where she won the last of her twenty-one Grand Slam titles.

Go to 3:40 to watch the most entertaining point of the match. Watching the whole match is worth it, too, for the drama that will unfold!
