05 A Change Is Gonna Come

Now that was a situation Gabriella hated. Even though for once it meant that she could actually go  and play under her real identity, she couldn’t stand the idea of having her sister as opponent.
It was a real dilemma that most of the players didn’t seem to understand. Only long-time doubles partners and, of course, the couples. But still, playing your twin brought up a singular sentiment that Gaga didn’t know how to deal with properly. When Lulu didn’t even seem to care the slightest bit. Nice.
“So, what are we going to do?” Lulu looked at her sister, waiting for a solution from Gaga, as always.
Gazing around in their hotel room, Gabriella shrugged at her sister’s question and sighed. Loudly. She was pissed off, anyway. The Ricky Ilesia song was still in her mind and then there was this thing with Sasha. As if nothing went right these days.

Confronted with Gaga’s obvious lack of enthusiasm, Luella bit her lower lip and frowned concentrating on some invisible point behind her sister.
There wasn’t one previous Ozolini clash that had escaped from the decision-making process over who would eventually win. Somehow, it brought safety to their career. And it was addicting to know that they were able to dominate every single situation in a way or another.
“Alright,” Luella said resolutely. “I would tend to say that it would be better if I won. Mainly because the other semi is Sasha vs. Angela and let’s face it, I have better chances against them than you do.”
Gabriella restrained a shriek of frustration. Great. Now she was simply a bad player. She sucked big time. Well, could that day get any worse?
“Okay, what is wrong with you?” Ah, and now came Luella and her shrink skills.
Gaga looked to the ceiling and crossed her arms against her chest. Yes, she was tired of bitching around with her twin but at times, it seemed like she didn’t have a choice at all. And that was it.
“Why do I always have to lose? It isn’t fair!”
“We both know that Sasha and Angela’s games are easier for me. Come on, you know this is true. It isn’t against you, honey.”
Of course Gabriella knew it was, but still. She had improved on every level in the last months. It hurt deep inside to think that she had to lose a match on purpose. Again.

But it was Lulu. Not only her sister but her twin. They had always been together, for everything. And would always be. They shared that odd connection that only twins could understand and that left the others baffled.
And to be honest, playing against Luella still brought up some entertainment along if only from the umpire and, lately, when re-watching the match, from the poor commentators who were literally lost. If you didn’t know the Ozolini twins that much, you’d have a hard time finding who was whom.
Luella was right. She had to win this time.
Gabriella nodded then finally smiled. She would watch the final and laugh her ass off at Sam’s and Hugh’s commenting.
“Okay. That’s a deal. You win.”
